Dragonfire Shield

item

Dragonfire Shield

The dragonfire shield is a power level 7 masterwork shield that is obtained from the Icthlarin's Little Helper reward pack by completing Icthlarin's Little Helper. It can be crafted at a blacksmith's bench after obtaining a smouldering draconic visage from the same pack or from turning in Fuzan's head to Icthlarin afterwards, although it will require yet another anti-dragon shield. It can be ascended at the mystic forge using ascension cores.

Its special effect launches a burst of lava forwards on a parry, dealing 25 damage and causes Burning on nearby enemies, which deals 11 damage per second for 5 seconds for a total of 55 Burning damage. This effect does not have a cooldown. This damage will interrupt a stagger caused by a parry. Unlike the dragonblight shield and dragoncurse shield, this shield does not currently have the anti-dragon shield's special effect Dragon Breath Resistance.

This shield has an excellent synergy with the fire cape, which restores stamina when defeating Burning targets with melee attacks. Unfortunately, the fire cape and Enchant Weapon: Fire are just as good at causing Burning damage. Fire magic and fire arrows are also a common source of damage in a multiplayer setting that wouldn't stack, not to mention several enemies are resistant to Burning (like the knights and mages of Dowdun Reach) or immune to fire completely (like the KotHaar). The toktz-ket-xil's increased melee damage after a parry (which does not interrupt a stagger) may still be more valuable.

  1. ↑ This is missing from the pack, a known bug.
  2. ↑ Note that there are no damage numbers for this effect.

Journal

The following text is transcribed from the Journal.

Fuzan was the youngest of Kuldra’s offspring, yet one of her most violent. As a child he was overcome with a curiosity infused with childlike cruelty. When Kuldra gifted him with the flames, stolen from the Dragonkin’s Harmonic Resonator, it did nothing to temper that childlike need to discover and destroy. The fires within him were a delight to wield and he grew more and more focused on their flickering flames, one day glancing through them to worlds of cinders that lay beyond. In the embers he heard a whisper, and as he listened it turned into a promise and a proclamation. A voice of true divinity, far surpassing the power of his mother’s dimmed spark. She was a queen of worlds far beyond this one, each of them shining beacons in the dark twilight of the heavens and Fuzan was enraptured. Through her instruction he learned to mark others with his seal, sharing some of his power with them, and in turn, some of hers. Now, with his destruction, you wield the flames yourself. A shield protecting you from her manipulation. Yet, should you stare too closely at the flames that burn within this shield, you might find yourself blinded by divine radiance.

    • The ability is active when the player deflects an attack, and instead of a fireball, lava comes out of the shield.
