The following text is transcribed from the Journal.

For a short period of time, there was an alliance between the trees and sea-dwelling creatures of Ashenfall. They shared common ground, after all: a hatred of being set on fire and chopped, primarily by humans and *spit* adventurers (trees would try to spit, but it mostly led to an unbecoming dribble of sap). The alliance didn't last long, mostly thanks to miscommunication down to a lack of common language. During a gathering at a seashore glade, the fish brought a contingent of hammerheads and sawfish, which the trees deemed overly aggressive. In retaliation, the yew trees 'showed a bit of branch' to a passing angler, and that angler found out that yew made for a spectacular fishing rod. There has been no talk of an alliance since then.
